Firstly, I think Seven deserves 7 Stars our of 5, because he was an outstanding guide and exactly someone I want! He was not only very punctual, but also was completely himself and made the Chongqing experience that much more authentic!
The main reason for the four stars is due to expectations and the itinerary. I think there was a fair amount of confusion relating to pricing, logistics and other itinerary-related concerns.
-Pricing
While the site quoted 1400RMB, I was quoted 1200RMB by Hugh, which is alright. However, the website did not state too clearly whether lunch was included or not. As such, I expected lunch to be included. However, after we ordered at the 串串 place, Seven clarified to check if my package included lunch. Confused, I showed him my comms with Hugh, to which Seven mentioned the price was without lunch (i.e. a higher price would include lunch). The issue is not exactly the price of food, or paying for my guide, but that it was not made clear. Had I chosen to go, for instance, to a 火锅 place, I might have spent 200+RMB only to find out I need to foot the bill (as a single traveller it’s expensive).
– Logistics and itinerary
I think some comms with Seven were not very clear. For instance, when I met Seven, he was told to expect two people, when I’m just one person. While it might be a small issue, but it could affect his planning for instance. Itinerary wise, while we did do the stated stops, the last evening bit was different from the website。We went to 长嘉汇 instead of 观音桥 or finding a spot to see 洪崖洞. I think it would have been nice to see the rest of the sites, given we had time to spare. Some difficulties that Seven experienced was it was difficult to get a carpark spot. Understandable, but if we didn’t go to 长嘉汇 it could be avoided.
Apart from the above issues, perhaps an invoicing or receipt system would be great, so that both you and I have the agreed price / confirmation that the tour will occur.
The Wulong Park tour on 8th Feb was otherwise good and I enjoyed it!

During our trip, we participated in three different programs. On our first day, Hugh guided us through the bustling world of Chongqing. He gave us an interesting and informative insight into the life, history and sights of the city. We had a really busy day with him, while also taking excellent photos of us – he has a great sense of photography.
Seven was our companion for the next two days. First we traveled to Dazu, then to Wulong. Seven is not only a great tour guide, but also a fantastic storyteller – he colored the trip with special stories. It was a great experience to talk to him, we learned a lot about Chinese culture from him.
He is a cheerful, attentive and extremely helpful personality. After the tours, he took us to some famous places, from which we had a stunning panorama – this made the experience even more memorable. Special recognition also goes to the way he paid special attention to the older members of the group.

1/ most of time was walking for alot of Kilometers ( not using private car) , i advice to use the car between tours esp in summer

The Mountain and City tour gave us a chance to discover many different sides of Chongqing — from beautiful viewpoints to lively city streets — and Seven shared so much history and cultural background along the way that really enriched the experience.
The highlight of the day was finishing at the biggest hot pot restaurant in the city. A great day out visiting the Wulong Karst area and the 816 Military Nuclear Plant. Both the Three Natural Bridges and 816 are highly recommended, as the scenery of Wulong is amazing and it’s not everyday that you can visit a nuclear weapons factory built deep into a mountain!! Seven was my guide and he did a great job; attentive, knowledgeable and fun to hang out with. He made the long car ride there and back go by pleasantly and fast. Thankyou Hugh and Seven for a brilliant City Highlights Tour on Christmas Eve! We had one day off to explore the city and this tour enabled us to see as much as possible in one day.
Seven was our guide and he was great. He was friendly, funny, fluent and informed. And a brilliant driver too! There were 6 of us so we had a large car that he handled expertly on the crazy roads and tight parking spaces of Chongqing!
Extra special points for finding us a Vegan restaurant at short notice. There are not many in Chongqing and so it was brilliant to have that option for lunch.
Have been following Hugh’s Instagram page for a while now and I’m so glad I was able to do one of his tours with some work colleagues. We all had a wonderful day.

Seven gave me the best tour experience I have ever had. It felt less like a tour and more like being shown around by a close friend who is genuinely proud of his hometown. He made Chongqing feel personal, welcoming, and exciting.

things to improve to be better Seven
1/ most of time was walking for alot of Kilometers ( not using private car) , i advice to use the car between tours esp in summer
2/ we went to a place and found out is closed ( should know before)
3/ he asks a-lot of personal questions that might bother some foreigners
lastly , he is very good , advice all others to go with him , these written for improvement only

The Mountain and City tour gave us a chance to discover many different sides of Chongqing — from beautiful viewpoints to lively city streets — and Seven shared so much history and cultural background along the way that really enriched the experience.
The highlight of the day was finishing at the biggest hot pot restaurant in the city. A great day out visiting the Wulong Karst area and the 816 Military Nuclear Plant. Both the Three Natural Bridges and 816 are highly recommended, as the scenery of Wulong is amazing and it’s not everyday that you can visit a nuclear weapons factory built deep into a mountain!! Seven was my guide and he did a great job; attentive, knowledgeable and fun to hang out with. He made the long car ride there and back go by pleasantly and fast. Thanks to the whole Hugh team for a memorable day trip!

Thankyou Hugh and Seven for a brilliant City Highlights Tour on Christmas Eve! We had one day off to explore the city and this tour enabled us to see as much as possible in one day.
Seven was our guide and he was great. He was friendly, funny, fluent and informed. And a brilliant driver too! There were 6 of us so we had a large car that he handled expertly on the crazy roads and tight parking spaces of Chongqing!
Extra special points for finding us a Vegan restaurant at short notice. There are not many in Chongqing and so it was brilliant to have that option for lunch.
Have been following Hugh’s Instagram page for a while now and I’m so glad I was able to do one of his tours with some work colleagues. We all had a wonderful day.
